The Art of SQL

As someone pointed out to me, everyone of these reviews is a 5-star.

You won’t be surprised that it doesn’t change my opinions of that book one jot. However, it’s only fair for people to see a range of opinions.

What I find a little disconcerting is that I distinctly remember a more negative review but it doesn’t seem to be there any more, unless I’m missing something.

  1. I’m always wary of books with loads of very positive reviews on Amazon. A few five star with some fours is believeable, all fives is less so. Makes me suspicious. I always wonder if the reviews are genuine or from shills working on behalf of the publisher.

    It is well known that Amazon will delete negative reviews of books. Not suprising really, their business is to sell books so they only want to publish reviews that will help them do that.

      It would appear to be true in this case. Someone else remembers a negative review that’s not there now. I would have thought the positive reviews are completely undermined as a result. Even if the positive reviewers are genuine members of the public with nothing to gain, how can I determine the overall balance of opinions if it’s artificially skewed?

      Call me naive, but what value a review process that isn’t completely honest? (Note, I’m talking about the *process* being dishonest, not individual reviews.)
