Just in case you miss it … Jonathan has an interesting new piece on sort efficiency in 10gR2.
What struck me on reading this is that, no matter how mature the CBO may be, small improvements are constant. That tells me that it’s a mistake to rely on an optimiser to do everything well and also that optimisation is a complex topic.
