I had originally planned to attend only the afternoon part of next week’s OUG Scotland conference<\/a>.
\nThat way I would be able to spend the morning in work and still catch a
\nfew presentations I want to see. However, Mogens Norgaard is unable to
\nmake it to deliver his DBA keynote presentation so when Thomas Presslie
\nwas kind enough to ask if I might be prepared to perform Moans stunts
\nfor him, I was happy to help.<\/p>\n

Anyone who has attended one of Mogens presentations will know that
\nthere is no substitute for the real thing. I could try slowing my
\ndelivery substantially, raise my eyebrows<\/strike> eyebrow sardonically to emphasise my
\npoints and pump up the level and quality of the humour but instead I’ve
\ndecided to give a new presentation of the appropriate type. <\/p>\n


\nThe Reality Gap<\/b><\/p>\n

Work in corporate IT departments for long enough and it becomes clear
\nthat there is often a gap between what is proposed as Industry Standard
\nor Best Practice and the reality of what is achievable within practical
\nbusiness constraints. This presentation will focus on topical gaps
\nincluding Patching, Disaster Recovery and Security and take a
\nlight-hearted look at the reality gap and a more serious look at what
\ncan be done to narrow the gap.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

Yes, that’s right. A new presentation, 6 days to go and my previous
\ntrack record in preparing presentations doesn’t reduce the time
\npressure any! Add in the usual day-to-day activities and you shouldn’t
\nexpect too much blogging over the next week.<\/p>\n
