I&#8217;m not sure.<\/p>\n<p>I had originally planned to attend only the afternoon part of next week&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ukoug.org\/calendar\/show_event.jsp?id=1821\">OUG Scotland conference<\/a>.<br \/>\nThat way I would be able to spend the morning in work and still catch a<br \/>\nfew presentations I want to see. However, Mogens Norgaard is unable to<br \/>\nmake it to deliver his DBA keynote presentation so when Thomas Presslie<br \/>\nwas kind enough to ask if I might be prepared to perform Moans stunts<br \/>\nfor him, I was happy to help.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who has attended one of Mogens presentations will know that<br \/>\nthere is no substitute for the real thing. I could try slowing my<br \/>\ndelivery substantially, raise my <strike>eyebrows<\/strike> eyebrow sardonically to emphasise my<br \/>\npoints and pump up the level and quality of the humour but instead I&#8217;ve<br \/>\ndecided to give a new presentation of the appropriate type. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><br \/>\nThe Reality Gap<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Work in corporate IT departments for long enough and it becomes clear<br \/>\nthat there is often a gap between what is proposed as Industry Standard<br \/>\nor Best Practice and the reality of what is achievable within practical<br \/>\nbusiness constraints. This presentation will focus on topical gaps<br \/>\nincluding Patching, Disaster Recovery and Security and take a<br \/>\nlight-hearted look at the reality gap and a more serious look at what<br \/>\ncan be done to narrow the gap.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Yes, that&#8217;s right. A new presentation, 6 days to go and my previous<br \/>\ntrack record in preparing presentations doesn&#8217;t reduce the time<br \/>\npressure any! Add in the usual day-to-day activities and you shouldn&#8217;t<br \/>\nexpect too much blogging over the next week.<\/p>\n<p>P.S. A dual blog poll.
