In three weeks time, I’ll be travelling to Manchester for Oak Table World UK
\n2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Actually, in three weeks time I’ll be watching Roddy Frame<\/a>
\nreprise Aztec Camera’s debut album<\/a> – High Land, Hard Rain<\/a> – but the next
\nmorning I’ll be catching the train to Manchester to present “Cloudy Reality”.
\nIt’s a presentation about some of the things I’ve learned over the past 6
\nmonths, thinking about private clouds and Database as a Service
\n(DBaaS).<\/p>\n

If the abstract seems a bit strange it’s because I won’t be
\ntalking about anything to do with specific clients or projects but about the
\nthings one might learn if one happened to be working on one of the larger
\nDBaaS projects out there.<\/p>\n

What’s OTWUK13 all about?<\/p>\n

Well it
\nstruck a few of the Oak Table Network<\/a> members that it would be great to
\nreplicate some of the undoubted success of Oak Table World<\/a> that has been
\nrunning for the past couple of years as a free and pretty cool add-on to
\nOracle Openworld. I suppose it’s similar to the concept of an Unconference.
\nAn alternative fringe event with a different focus that people can dip in
\nand out of alongside the main UKOUG Tech conference<\/a>. Additional content, some of
\nit very cool, a warm welcome and completely free to register here<\/a>. Seems a
\nbargain to me, even if you just show up for a presentation or two (preferably mine 😉). I’m sure
\nthat those who’ve attended the sister event in San Francisco would
\nagree!<\/p>\n

I’m delighted that James Morle of Scaleabilities kick-started it
\nand so many of my friends agreed to speak because until OTWUK13 was
\nhappening, I wasn’t going to be in Manchester at all but this gives me a
\ngood excuse to catch up with people I don’t see often whilst being able to
\nshare some recent experiences., perhaps have one beer (maybe two) and
\nthen head back down the road to do my proper job.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
