{"id":1712,"date":"2013-11-17T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-17T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orcldoug.com\/blog\/?p=1712"},"modified":"2013-11-17T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-11-17T12:00:00","slug":"oak-table-world-uk-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/orcldoug.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/17\/oak-table-world-uk-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Oak Table World UK 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In three weeks time, I&#8217;ll be travelling to Manchester for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scaleabilities.co.uk\/oaktable-world-uk-2013\/\">Oak Table World UK<br \/>\n2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, in three weeks time I&#8217;ll be watching <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roddyframe.com\/\">Roddy Frame<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2013\/aug\/28\/roddy-frame-aztec-camera-high-land-hard-rain\"><br \/>\nreprise Aztec Camera&#8217;s debut album<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_Land,_Hard_Rain\">High Land, Hard Rain<\/a> &#8211; but the next<br \/>\nmorning I&#8217;ll be catching the train to Manchester to present &#8220;Cloudy Reality&#8221;.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s a presentation about some of the things I&#8217;ve learned over the past 6<br \/>\nmonths, thinking about private clouds and Database as a Service<br \/>\n(DBaaS).<\/p>\n<p>If the abstract seems a bit strange it&#8217;s because I won&#8217;t be<br \/>\ntalking about anything to do with specific clients or projects but about the<br \/>\nthings one might learn if one happened to be working on one of the larger<br \/>\nDBaaS projects out there.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s OTWUK13 all about?<\/p>\n<p>Well it<br \/>\nstruck a few of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oaktable.net\/\">Oak Table Network<\/a> members that it would be great to<br \/>\nreplicate some of the undoubted success of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kylehailey.com\/oaktable-world\/\">Oak Table World<\/a> that has been<br \/>\nrunning for the past couple of years as a free and pretty cool add-on to<br \/>\nOracle Openworld. I suppose it&#8217;s similar to the concept of an Unconference.<br \/>\nAn alternative fringe event with a different focus that people can dip in<br \/>\nand out of alongside the main <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ukoug.org\/events\/ukoug-technology-conference-2013\/\">UKOUG Tech conference<\/a>. Additional content, some of<br \/>\nit very cool, a warm welcome and completely free to register <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scaleabilities.co.uk\/oaktable-world-uk-2013\/\">here<\/a>. Seems a<br \/>\nbargain to me, even if you just show up for a presentation or two (preferably mine &#128521;). I&#8217;m sure<br \/>\nthat those who&#8217;ve attended the sister event in San Francisco would<br \/>\nagree!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m delighted that James Morle of Scaleabilities kick-started it<br \/>\nand so many of my friends agreed to speak because until OTWUK13 was<br \/>\nhappening, I wasn&#8217;t going to be in Manchester at all but this gives me a<br \/>\ngood excuse to catch up with people I don&#8217;t see often whilst being able to<br \/>\nshare some recent experiences., perhaps have one beer (maybe two) and<br \/>\nthen head back down the road to do my proper job.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In three weeks time, I&#8217;ll be travelling to Manchester for Oak Table World UK 2013.
