Rob Vollman blogged about the Thomas Kyte Effect. Pete has (and no doubt others have) before. Well, I have to say I’m a little disappointed and I’m thinking of writing to Tom and asking for a refund (and perhaps he can make Metalink run faster while he’s at it). I noticed a link to my blog (which I appreciate) when I visited Tom’s re-designed site at the weekend. I expected a deluge of additional traffic but …. nothing.
My guess is that I’m fairly well established in the Oracle blogging community now (i.e. I’ve been doing it for more than 6 weeks); Orablogs is already a great source of traffic and the people who visit Tom’s blog already visit a number of other Oracle blogs anyway.
Now, if you were to be linked from the main asktom.oracle.com page, I’m sure that would be a different barrel of monkeys! (I have no idea what that last phrase means, but it sounds good to me at the moment)
In fairness, a friend of a friend of a friend emailed me today to say – ‘hey, you must be really important, there’s a link to your blog on Tom Kyte’s blog!’ There’s not much you can say to that, but I’m sure I’ll rustle up a few words in the near future …

I was not only linked from the home page of asktom.oracle.com, but also from the home page of otn.oracle.com.
It is always nice to have more hits to your blog but it is much nicer to feel that you are recognized and appreciated 🙂

Old company names linger in net-land. We’ve changed name 3 times since then!
Still next month I’ll be on a new domain and turn up as being in Boston, MA and working for yet another defunct company name 😉
The two days after I presented at UKOUG, I saw a massive spike in my stats.
I was really proud, thinking that I’d managed to appeal to so many people at the conference.
Turns out Tom had blogged about introducing my presentation and included a link to my blog.
For the next 3 days I had an increase of 500% on the number of hits per day!

I wish. I think I’ve worked it out though because Tom is the second biggest incoming link after Orablogs, so there must be something else going on.
