Just having a quick break between the afternoon session’s and this evening’s party.
I meant to say before that lunch was pretty nice, as all of the food has been so far. After that, I popped in to see Julian Dyke’s RAC presentation. Here’s a picture of him and a couple of volunteers demonstrating cache fusion using a beach ball and a waste paper basket.
Julian gave a pretty technical presentation whilst being listenable and getting a good few jokes in about the OPS/RAC change and Oracle licencing.
I ended up skipping the next session because I had a few things to take care of and then attended Cary Millsap’s Lessons Learned – Version 2006.03 It was everything I’d hoped for and having an afternoon box of popcorn helped! Cary’s an extremely engaging speaker, the material was deeper than most conference presentations but he made it all very simple to understand. I’m always impressed with someone who confesses to their errors, too 😉
I left with a couple of notes of things to try, which is always a good sign.
A quote from one of Cary’s slides leapt out at me
“The scientific mind does not so much provide the right answer as ask the right questions”
I saw the start of the Speaker Panel session but had to get some long-distance phone calls in so I ducked out early.
Now I have a couple of diagrams to fix for tomorrow’s presentation, then it’s Marguerita Time! (Yeah, right, until I pass out at 9pm and get carried to my room, asleep ….)
I agree that JD did a great job.
You missed Delmolino’s session which had some good points about organizational issues. Yeah, I know, it is not as technical but we all need to deal with these as well.
