Some more DBF stuff

First, someone else’s pictures. Much better than mine, obviously, but their camera seems to be a little suspect because all the pictures of me look grey, drunken and not a little scary.

Second, I wanted to apologise for the fact that, not only were my pictures pants, but that quite a few of those blogs were rushed efforts and now that I’ve taken some time to read them, this comment I made about one of Tom Kyte’s presentations jumped out at me

“I was amazed (but maybe shouldn’t have been) with the
volume of crummy advice from the early 90s that he’d managed to dig up.”

What isn’t obvious from that comment was that the ‘crummy advice from the early 90s’ wasn’t actually from the 90s, but was based on an absolutely current Google search. My shock was that the advice which some deemed to be current just sounded like what I’d expect in the early 90s!

Next up, I feel I should resolve a little mystery about this blog. If you’re not sitting down, perhaps you should before I continue. When we were at the beach party, someone managed to slip and fall on his back whilst trying to avoid spilling the two drinks he was carrying, one in each hand for balance (clearly unsuccessful). For the rest of the night he was whining occasionally about feeling a little sore. He got short shrift from his somewhat drunken companions.

When I was passing his cottage the next morning, he shouted me in to take a look at this. Once I’d got over the initial shock, I realised it was the perfect way to finish my presentation. I told the story and the gentleman concerned came to the front of the room to expose the damage. It totally out-shone the rest of the presentation (more on that later) so I owe him a debt of gratitude. He’s a good sport.
