I’d planned a little blogging this weekend but my niece gave birth at 4:43 am today and it looks like I’ll spend tomorrow driving to Aberdeen to visit her. It’s only about 100 miles each way, but they’re among the worst 100 miles I’ve ever driven 🙁 (Anyone who’s commuted to Aberdeen will know what I mean!)
A couple of things I was very keen to mention, though. I blogged about DTrace on Solaris a while ago (you’ll need to excuse the not-very-funny comedy comments, followed by a genuinely funny one from Andy C) and Kevin Closson mentioned OProfile on Linux to me. Kevin posted another comment that would be easy to miss with a link to his OProfile blog (in fact, I didn’t notice at first that it needed approval because it was a comment to an old blog). Interesting stuff. In fact, I find Kevin’s blog consistently interesting and it reminds me that a lot of the performance fundamentals I first learned in the dim and distant past haven’t changed much.
Kevin’s comment wouldn’t have been so easy for others to miss if I’d had coComment enabled. I’ve always thought that the easy tracking of comments was essential to make the weblog model work. The time consuming factor isn’t following blogs – RSS readers make that easy – but tracking threads I might have posted a comment to. I thought the facility to subscribe to a specific blog might be more popular than it’s proved so thanks to Andy C for asking me to add coComment support. It was a breeze thanks to the handy URL he sent and it makes tracking comment threads like this one a bit easier! As usual, if you see any problems with the comment form, let me know.
Thanks, as always, for your kind words Doug.
Honestly, I’m still mashing about in my mind some of the food for thought that I took away from our big Oak Table Network mind meld of UKOUG!
Damn I hate international travel though!
totally of topic and geeky

Wiiiiiiii
Show-off! 😉
Thanks for the post and the ease of tracking comments – it was probably time I had coComments enabled, I have been missing out on a lot of follow-up comments on blogs because of this!!!
