Thanks

Now that the move has been completed and the Blogger fiasco might be coming to an end, I just wanted to say thanks to lots of people who’ve helped out. Not necessarily by name, but The Oracle aggregator owners who ended up with a page full of spam but responded helpfully and quickly. The various… Continue reading Thanks

Production Call-out

On Saturday morning, we ran into a problem on one of our 9.2.0.7 Production databases during an Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) batch process. I was called at 5:15am to look at a job that normally runs in a few minutes but had failed after 30 or 40 minutes when trying to allocate an extent… Continue reading Production Call-out

Enjoying it while it lasts

I’m not on-call any more. The blog situation is improving. Now, if only the Czechs hadn’t scored that third goal against the USA and Australia had stopped when they equalised, my life would be excellent. “Hi Doug, You’re current rank in the World Cup 2006 APEX application is 10 out of 367. Some more info:… Continue reading Enjoying it while it lasts

Harder than it should be

I’m plodding away, trying to get the new blog sorted out. On the one hand, I’m fairly pleased that the bulk of the old blogs have been copied over successfully, including 1) Reader comments 2) Getting the photos moved off Blogger on to my own host On the other, there’s still a lot to do… Continue reading Harder than it should be

Time for a vote, I think

Well there are a lot of new templates on this blog and you can choose your own. Many of them don’t work too well with the current content. The Direct Path Reads blog is a particularly interesting template test 🙁 I’d be interested, though, to hear which are the most popular and more important, why?… Continue reading Time for a vote, I think

Blogger Hacked?

Thanks to Peter Scott for noticing that I appeared to be clogging up Orablogs with spam. I immediately assumed this was something to do with the new blog, but it’s actually at http://oracledoug.blogspot.com. When I go into my control panel, the blog is still there, but I can’t re-publish properly. So I reckon that means… Continue reading Blogger Hacked?

I’ve had a long day

I’m on-call and have been called out a lot. My blogger blog has been hijacked by spammers. It’s taking an age to get my old blogs moved across. I’ll get there but, for now, I need to log off, chill out and maybe even sleep.

My new blog

Well, not so much a new blog as a new home. Tired of not being able to run any decent software because of hosting restrictions, I’ve decided it’s time to bite the bullet and move hosting providers. I’ve been extremely keen to avoid any significant work on web stuff because I have enough on my… Continue reading My new blog
