The Cuddly Toys either love me very very much or feel that I’d been neglecting my PR activities on their behalf. Regardless, I received a beautiful 2011 desk calendar. Each month has a photo and a message from the Boys and Girls so, for one year only, the Cuddly Toy Calendar appears on the side-bar.… Continue reading My Best Christmas Present Ever

Movember
Lord help me and eternal hell on Graeme Pitt for badgering me into this … “This Movember I’ve decided to donate my face to raising awareness about prostate cancer. My donation and commitment is the growth of a moustache for the entire month of Movember, which I know will generate conversation, much laughter and ritual… Continue reading Movember
Party Night
We had Richard and Janet over to our place last Saturday night. As they are both blind, they have guide dogs who they bought with them. It’s not always the case that they have to come over with taxis, friends etc, but we generally like to encourage it 😉 They are incredibly well-behaved dogs thanks… Continue reading Party Night
Random Memories of Jof – part 14
I have no idea how many parts, so let’s just pick a random number. One thing that surprised me when I had the occasional burst of contact with Jof recently was just how well he remembered the past but I’ll stick to what I can remember so it might be a bit more limited. –… Continue reading Random Memories of Jof – part 14
Sob, Sob
Sob, Sob! That’s how I finished this brief announcement. “Sob, Sob” was a character that Jof invented in his teens. He was a gifted cartoonist. He was a gifted film-maker, artist, human being and games programmer as well and, although I never heard him, I’m sure he was a gifted DJ too. Jof excelled at… Continue reading Sob, Sob
Joffa Smifff – One of a kind. I’ll miss you
Stupid statement, given that we had very little contact in the past 20 years, but we had plenty before that that I’m thankful for (you changed my world, man) and I know a true original and a special person. I’m glad so many others do, too and, although you might take the p*ss out of… Continue reading Joffa Smifff – One of a kind. I’ll miss you
Marco Update
Regular readers will remember that my daughter and I sponsored a guide dog puppy called Marco. In that post I highlighted my daughter’s sinister plan :- “… she seemed most interested in the section that explained that not all puppies make the grade but then they are re-homed. I had visions of her following the… Continue reading Marco Update
ZX Spectrum Stuff
A couple of outstanding Ping Pong-related links on the ZX Spectrum Games blog that I’ve been meaning to post for a while. The first is an interview that I did with those guys via email. It might not be too interesting and, reading it back, I could have gone on for a lot longer (which… Continue reading ZX Spectrum Stuff
Nintendo Wii Sun, Jul 29. 2007
Listen, I’m just terrible at writing reviews so I won’t even try. Last autumn, I would receive regular updates from Koert on his hunt for one of the few remaining Wii consoles in Belgium and his early days of joy once he found one. That stuck in my mind, I tried to buy one for… Continue reading Nintendo Wii Sun, Jul 29. 2007
Another Fine Blog Tue, Sep 4. 2007
I’ve been meaning to mention this one for weeks. Eddie Awad’s OraNA aggregator has turned me on to quite a few new blogs and this is one of my favourites. I like the combination of technical content, opinion and the overall sense of the daily reality of being a DBA. Good stuff.
