Look what I found! (or was pointed to, to be more accurate).
This is a copy of a BBC documentary called ‘Commercial Breaks’ that had earned somewhat mythical status in the Spectrum fan scene. I do have a copy of it on VHS in my house and had been planning to get it online at some point, but now I needn’t bother. (Although my viewing experience has been terribly jerky and I’m not sure whether that’s a problem on the host or at my end.) This video was filmed just a short month or two after I was laid-off from Imagine Software and less than a year before I started working at Ocean Software, so I was very much part of this scene (although, looking at 80s British Geek fashion, I hesitate to admit it).
The quite inscrutable chap demonstrating the game in Ocean’s office is my best mate from the Ocean days – Jonathan (Joffa) Smith, who was (and no doubt still is) a coding genius. He’s pretty shy which you might not be able to detect from his ultra-cool external persona during that scene. I can assure you that it was probably naked terror, despite his appearance!
Enjoy 😉
